Create raised or concave effects, or use embossing with foil to add height to the foil.

Embossing is a technique for creating a raised pattern on material, whereas debossing creates a concave effect. They are often employed to attract attention or convey a high-quality textural contrast in relation to the surrounding area of the paper stock.

Embossing can be used with foil to add extra height to the foil. A blind emboss is where a die is used to create a 3D raised effect without any foil; the material is simply embossed using a small shape or lettering.
