FAQs
1. Can we gum on top of print?
It is not ideal to apply re-moist gum over ink or sealer. For effective application the re-moist adhesive needs to be in contact with the surface of the substrate.
2. Do we need to send a positive mask for the Heidelberg?
No. A fully imposed PDF file is required to produce the flexo plate, the grip measurement (i.e. edge of sheet to first cut) is also required.
3. Will it make my sheets curl?
No, the process should not make the sheets curl.
4. Can you gum both sides of the sheet?
It is not recommended to apply re-moist adhesive to both sides of the sheet because of the possibility of adhesive to adhesive blocking. Work should be printed sheet work.
5. How wide does the gummed area have to be?
This depends on the thickness and folding characteristics of the substrate. A thicker substrate will require a larger area for successful gumming.
6. Why do you return work on smaller pallets?
To reduce the possibility of blocking in the stack. It is also important to cut the bands or strapping on pallets of returned work to decrease the possibility of sheets sticking together in the stack.
7. Is it laser compatible?
Re-moist gum 'should' be laser compatible. However, due to the diversity of lasers and laser technology we would recommend that tests are carried out prior to production.
8. Can you apply re-moist adhesive and crease / perforate at the same time?
Yes, the Heidelberg is equipped to apply multiple applications in one pass through the press .
9. What are the ideal storage conditions?
When applied sheets / blanks with re-moist adhesives need to be stored in dry, dark areas.
10. How long will the gum be active?
Certainly up to a year but this will be dependent upon storage conditions.
