FAQs
What is the film made from?
Cellomed is manufactured from refined wood pulp
from SFI managed forests with a special antimicrobial
additive incorporated at manufacture, which
acts to prevent the spread of bacteria.
How
long does it last?
The antimicrobial additive is fully contained
within the film and is non-volatile and will
continue to work throughout the life of the
product.
What tests have been done?
Independent tests have been conducted by Ciba
Speciality Chemicals directly comparing Cellomed
with standard OPP film – in a Bacterial
Growth Inhibition test (Method reference: CG147e).
In brief the results confirm that Cellomed
film prevents the growth of both MRSA and
E Coli.
See results table on the Cellomed flyer.
What
do the results mean?
The ZI (Zone of Inhibition) figures are
a measurement in millimetres of the area
surrounding
the
test sample – the first figure is
the north to south measurement and the
second is the east
to west measurement. (Both figures are
quoted as the ZI measurement is not always
circular).
The VR (Vinson Rating) is the
measurement for growth under the disc – with
4 being the best result possible confirming
no bacterial
growth under the laminated disc. (0 figure
confirms strong bacterial growth) How can
you tell if a product has been
laminated with Cellomed?
It is not possible to tell whether Cellomed
has been used without conducting bacterial
growth
tests or having the film analysed as the
film looks the same as other laminates,
so we recommend
using the Cellomed logo or a tag line,
to let people know that what they're touching
has
been protected by Cellomed.
Also it is possible
to tell the difference when the film is
in reel form as a very
small quantity
of blue dye has been added – this
dye acts as a tracer, which enables us
to clearly identify
the film from any others and ensure we
laminate the job with the correct film.
Is
it active against Clostridium Difficile?
Initial tests indicate that the antimicrobial
additive should be active against C Diff – but
we are awaiting full test results. Can you
recycle Cellomed?
Cellomed is manufactured from cellulose – and
like its sister film CelloGreen can be
recycled, where facilities exist, when
included as a proportion
of general paper waste.
Is it biodegradable?
The inclusion of the antimicrobial additive
means that the film cannot be classed
as being biodegradable.
What does it look
like?
The film is available in both GLOSS or ‘SILK’ finishes
and looks the same as CelloGreen film
laminates – the
appearance is also similar to OPP film
laminates.
What is the current availability?
The film is currently being held in
stock in our Central Warehouse (LSC)
in Sevenoaks
in
3 standard reel sizes: 710mm – 630mm and
510mm – these sizes can be used to laminate
a range of standard sheet sizes. (SRA1, SRA2,
B1, B2 + B3). |
