Celloglas launches Environmentally Friendly Laminate

To support clients with environmental commitments in line with Government targets, Celloglas has developed an over lamination film and adhesive that offers all the benefits of OPP but is sustainable, compostable and can be recycled.

As seen in Print Week, Printing World, Print Buyer, Print Media Management,..

An over lamination film and adhesive offering all the benefits of OPP, sustainable and recyclable, CelloGreen® brings with it simplified waste handling and reduced disposal costs.

Sustainable

CelloGreen® has been cultivated responsibly for over 25 years, harvested and processed in a low impact system. The timber used is harvested from SFI managed forests where full consideration is given to wildlife, the eco system and the landscape in which the trees are grown

CelloGreen® film conforms to DIN EN 13432:2000-12 which is the internationally recognized standard for compostability and biodegration. With refined wood pulp at the heart of this film, the environmental issues are checked at every stage.

OPP in contrast, with its source rooted in petroleum, has taken 35 million years and significant processing and distillation before it can be laminated once, discarded and ploughed into the subsoil as landfill forever.

Ease of handling

It’s easy to go green: Using a film that is suitable for processing in a normal re-pulping system, any waste or side trims can be handled with general printer waste, collected and sent for recycling saving time sorting and separating waste on the shop floor.

FAQs

From what is the film made?
The film is made from highly refined wood pulp sourced from SFI managed forests, processed in a closed system.

What is SFI accreditation?
SFI stands for the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and is the North American equivalent of FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) and works on the simple premise that “we can protect our forest while producing the wood and paper products our economy needs”. For further information see the link below

Are other finishes available?
CelloGreen is available in gloss, matt and silk finishes

How do the qualities of the film compare with OPP?
In most cases the two are similar in appearance though for certain applications CelloGreen will offer superior performance dependent on the end use.

How does the price compare with OPP film?
It is more expensive but as increased sales are reflected in increased volume the price differential is reducing. Consider also the cost savings to be gained > through un-segregated waste handling and ease of disposal.

How long does it take to compost CelloGreen?
The film is DIN EN 13432 accredited, which is the internationally recognised standard for compostability and biodegradation. (see link below) Under the correct conditions of temperature and moisture the breakdown of the film takes around eight weeks.

Is the impact of the manufacture of the film environmentally controlled?
Film production is governed by ISO14001 (see link below)

Can trim and waste be handled with unlaminated waste?
Yes, tests are currently underway in the UK and tests in the USA indicate that a significant percentage of the film will fragment in the re-pulping process and will pass through a standard filtration process.
